Below are the Columbus Convention Center site rules and regulations. Violations of the rules and regulations will result in disqualification and elimination from the event of the offending teams and/or individuals, including parents.

1. Players are allowed to bring water bottles and snacks in their gym bag.
2. No passing volleyballs in hallways or concessions areas. Warm-up time will be provided on the court before the match.
3. No smoking in gym areas or hallways.
4. There are no shower facilities.
5. Put all trash in containers provided by the Convention Center staff.

OVR staff has been diligently working with the Greater Columbus Convention Center and the City of Columbus Health Department (Columbus) to ensure the Girls WinterFest (Jan 23-24) is a safe, successful event to get the season started. Our mantra throughout the pandemic has been “patience, flexibility & understanding.” A safe return to play, and the health and wellbeing of our members, is our priority. In that endeavor, the OVR will work to provide the best playing opportunities possible, while adhering to limitations imposed by health departments and other agencies.

Today, we have been informed by the City of Columbus Health Department that spectators will NOT be permitted inside the competition halls for the Girls WinterFest. We recognize the importance of parents supporting their children’s endeavors, and we understand the concerns this may cause. We exhausted all avenues to find alternate solutions that would allow parents to be near the event, i.e., in the GCCC concourse, food courts, etc. Our ideas were turned down by the CCHD and GCCC.

We are currently evaluating options to “live stream” matches so that spectators might watch using their mobile device or other viewing monitor.

We maintain daily communication with the GCCC and CCHD, and we will share any important updates with participants as quickly as possible. If the CCHD “no spectator” restriction impacts your team’s decision to participate in the Girls WinterFest, please notify us as quickly as possible. We understand you may need to consult with parents from each team. The alternative is to cancel the event, but we strongly feel that the event can be conducted safely and successfully, despite some limitations. Please let us know by Friday, January 8, 2021, of your plans to participate.  Send an email to: herbert@ovr.org and tell me if you wish to withdraw any teams.  Checks have not been deposited and will be shredded.

We will be using three team pools throughout the event. If an age division ends up with a non-multiple of three, we will have to get creative.

 As we’ve heard throughout this pandemic, “we’re in this together.” We will continue to work with you to provide safe, exciting volleyball opportunities to all our members.

We are planning on two waves with three teams pools in each.  First wave will play three matches within their three team pool.  Teams will immediately be reseeded into a second three team pool and play their three matches.  All teams will be done for the day.

Second wave will be allowed in at approximately 2:30 and play in three team pools.  Immediately repool and play a second three team pool.  Then be done for the day.

Doors open at 7:00 am each day.

Starting at 8 am on Sunday, the teams from the first wave on Saturday will play in another three team pool for final placement in the event.  There will not be any brackets.

Starting at approximately noon, the teams from the second wave on Saturday will also play in a three team pool for final placement in the event.

10.12 Team withdraws due to Covid 19 restrictions.

Tournament or Site - REQUIRED CANCELLATION

All team entry fees, in FULL, are required to be returned within 10

days.

Team Cancellations: When a TEAM must withdraw from an event due to

required quarantine/cancellation, the following policy will be

enforced.

NO REFUND of event entry fee will be required of the event host. Every

effort must be made of the event host to replace the team withdrawing

and refund of entry fee made possible.

A PARTIAL REFUND may result from this effort. Many Tournament Directors

have made a “reduced entry fee proposal” to entice a late entry. The

difference in cost must be returned to the withdrawn team.

I use the previous year's next younger age division. So to seed the 18s division this year, I use results from the 17s division events from last year. Etc.

The entry fee is $495 US per team. Please write your entry fee check payable to "Ohio Valley Region" and mail to:

The courts will be in Hall C & D which are towards the North of the Convention Center.

Checks must be received by January 1, 2021. Checks are not deposited until the weekend of the event. If you are entering teams in multiple events, you need to send a separate check per event.

There is a State of Ohio law that requires all coaches and administrators of juniors sports teams to have concussion certifications. Here is a link to the NFHS course in Concussion in Sports

Non-OVR teams need to submit a tournament entry form with their entry fee checks. 

Doors open at 7:00 am each day. All divisions begin at 8:00 am on Saturday and 8:00 am on Sunday.

For this events, players are allowed to bring a small cooler with food in their gym bag.
