2015 OVR High Performance Program
2015 HP Update 3-4-15
The OVR HP Program is operated in conjunction with the USA Volleyball High Performance Program. Our HP program is designed to provide junior athletes with high-level training and skill development by some of the top coaches in our region. We also send teams to USA High Performance Championships, providing our athletes the opportunity to compete in the highest-level junior tournament available in the United States and the only international tournament sponsored by USA Volleyball.
The OVR's HP teams will attend the 2015 USAV HP Championships in Des Moines, Iowa on July 21-25, 2015.
The age divisions for HP teams are different than for USA juniors. The player’s birth year is used and not the age of the player as of September 1st. There are no age or grade waivers granted for HP.
The OVR is planning on forming 4 teams:
- Girls’ Select — born in the years 2000 and 2001
- Girls’ Youth — born in the years 1998 and 1999
- Boys’ Select — born in the years 1999 and 2000
- Boys’ Youth — born in the years 1997 and 1998
20-25 players are selected from each age group from a tryout process. They will be invited to a training camp that will be held July 9-11, 2015 at Bowling Green State University. 10 players from camp will then be selected from each age group to represent the region at the HP Championships and compete against other region teams and USAV HP teams. These players will also train together for 1-2 days before the Championships. The teams will travel together by bus to Des Moines. The players will stay together and will be supervised by their coaches and chaperones.
The coaching staff is made up of top collegiate coaches in our region along with high-level club coaches.
Tryouts for the boys were held in conjunction with the OVR Boys’ Championship on Friday, February 20th and Saturday, February 21st in Urbana at Game Time Sports.
Boys who tried out will receive an email notification as to whether they have been invited to camp or are an alternate or have not been offered a position at this time.
There may also be a make-up tryout in June for athletes not able to attend the tryouts in February. A majority of the training camp spots will be awarded at the February tryouts. Check the website in May for the possibility of a June make-up tryout.
The girls’ tryouts will be held on Friday, April 10th at the Columbus Convention Center in conjunction with the OVR bid tournament. A second tryout for the girls will be held in May during one of the weekends of the OVR Girls’ Championships. More information will be posted later in March.
Half of the cost of the program is underwritten by the OVR. The participating athlete pays for the other half. The cost varies each year depending on the location of the championship and the mode of transportation to get there. The cost for camp is usually around $350.00 and the cost for attending the championship is between $300 and $600. This includes all travel, accommodations and some meals while at the championships. Kaepa sponsors the players and coach’s uniforms and apparels and bags. Without the help the OVR and Kaepa, players would be paying approximately $2,000 each for the program.
The OVR Website will be updated with more information about registering for tryouts and other details as they become available.
