Despite being much the same team that lost in the 16 Club Gold Championship two years ago as well in the 17 Club Championship last year, Renaissance Red-18 was seeded 26th out of 32 teams.

On the final day, Red-18 beat NCVC in two games. They beat TVA in three games in the semi-finals, they matched up with Molten Hawaii Black in the finals. This was a team that the Red-18 had beaten in two games the prior day. But, Molten Hawaii came to play in the finals. In an exciting final match, Red-18 won the Gold Championship in three games by the scores of 26-24, 21-25, 21-19.

In order to win, all eight players had to play well. MH Andrew Atman (6’11”, Univ of Buffalo) led the attacks. MH Andrew Elmore (6’5”, Penn State) led in block-kills. OH Sean Hopper (6’6”, St. Francis) gave the best all-around performance. OH Zach Nanni (6’1”, St. Francis) was named to the All-Tourney Team for the third straight year. Setter Eric Vosefski (6’3”, St. Francis) was also named to the All-Tourney Team for the third straight year. RS Travis Bluemling (6’5”, Cal-Northridge) was named to the All-Tourney Team for the fourth straight year. Finally, setter Eric Vosefski was named the Tournament MVP.

For coach Drew Vosefski, “The third time was the charm.” His Red-16 team had lost in the 16 Club Championship match two years ago; and, his Red-17 team had lost in the 17 Club Championship match last year.

For Executive Director John Turchek, it was his first National Championship since he started the Renaissance VBC 10 years ago.
