Mizuno Cincy Classics 14 Red qualified for the USA National Volleyball Tournament in April. All of their preparation that began in November of 2001 has finally paid off. They left for Sandy (a suburb inside of Salt Lake City), Utah on July 3rd not knowing what to expect when they got there. They were originally seeded 20th out of 64 teams in the 14 Club division. They went through the entire tournament, 4 days of pool play, without losing one match (12-0), ending their season with a National Championship title. A team who had won their region (Ohio Valley Region) in May had traveled a long way to play against teams from all over the nation. Throughout their season they had won several tournaments that were held all over Ohio, but no one thought that a National Championship would be added to their list of many accomplishments. The girls had tryouts in November 2001 and have been working very hard 2-3 days every week, practicing for this one event! All of their hard work and dedication finally paid off when they walked away from Sandy, Utah with gold medals around their necks.

The following teams were among the 12 that Mizuno Cincy Classics defeated on their road to winning Nationals:

Pool play, Day 1 Coast Jimmy 14-1
Tide Water 14-1
Iowa Power 14-1

Pool play, Day 2NKYVC Tide
KIVA White
Genesis Green

Pool play, Day 3St. Louis CYC
USA South
Club Momentum

Quarter FinalsNKYVC Tsunami

Semi-FinalsCajunland Tommy 14-1

FinalsSeal Beach 14 Gold

Mizuno Cincy Classics 14 Red is coached by Stephanie Roeper, a graduate from the University of Findlay, where she played 4 years of varsity volleyball. She has just been hired as the head women's varsity volleyball coach at Fairfield High School and looks forward to a successful fall season.

Coaches Meeting at 7:30 am. First matches are at 8:00 am. Registration for teams will remain open until March 1st. At that time I will not accept any more registrations unless there is space.

Only the top eight 17 American and top eight 16 American teams ranked teams (as of 5 pm, Tuesday, March 10th) of the teams registered will participate.

This is NOT a first-come first-served event. The other teams will receive refunds. This tournament is restricted to Ohio Valley Region teams only. This is a special tournament for 17 American and 16 American Division teams to earn a spot in the OVR National Bid Tournament. The OVR National Bid Tournament is normally restricted to just teams registered as National Division teams. This Play-In Tournament allows Regional and American teams to try to earn a spot in the Bid Tournament. The top two teams from this event are guaranteed a spot in the Bid Tournament. If more spots are available in the Bid Tournament then the 3rd and 4th place teams may also be invited to play in the Bid Tournament.

This Play-In Tournament is only open to teams serious about playing in the Bid Tournament. Do not enter this tournament if you are not willing to participate in the Bid Tournament. If you earn a spot in the Bid Tournament and do not participate, your club may not be allowed to participate in the Play-In Tournament the next season.

Teams earning spots into the OVR National Bid Tournament will pay a reduced entry fee of $560 instead of the usual $610. That is because you paid $275 to enter this Play-In Tournament which is higher than the normal $225 fee.

All four Play-In Tournaments are considered one event. So a player may participate for only one team across both weekends.

Grade-level teams are not allowed into this event. Your team must be age appropriate for the division you enter.

There is a State of Ohio law that requires all coaches and administrators of juniors sports teams to have concussion certifications. Here is a link to the NFHS course in Concussion in Sports

Seating is provided. Outside food is not allowed into the facility. NOVA VBC will be hosting a concession stand for participants and spectators. Personal coolers must be left in your vehicles.

If severe weather is expected, please watch this space for updates.
