Subject: Tournament Format

I have received several complaints about tournament formats and playoff procedures.. Tournament host are not including tournament formats on the information they send the teams and people are running formats that are not in compliance with the tournament guidelines.

1. Several tournaments will have 5 teams per pool. The Games in 5 team pools must be played to 15 not 11.
2. Four team pools will be 2 out of 3 games to 15. Per tournament guidelines.
3. All teams in four team pools must go to a playoff division. (This supersedes rule #12 in the tournament pack guidelines.) Whether that be gold, silver, bronze or whatever. If you need help with the breakdown please contact me.
4. Several tournament directors have contacted me stating that they lost track of the number of teams entered in the tournament and need to run five teams per pool because they took too many teams. This is no longer an excuse. Those directors will be allowed to run the five team pools but there will be no more exceptions.
5. Several tournament directors have stated that they have not read the tournament pack sent to them. PLEASE READ THE GUIDELINES CAREFULLY.
6. All tournament directors must send me a copy of the information sheet they send to all teams entered in the tournament with the tournament format included. (ex- 1 pool of 5 for 12's 2 games to 15 top 4 to playoffs. 3 pools of 14's, 2 out of 3 to 15, gold and silver playoffs.)
7. If anyone is not following the tournament guidelines please contact me or Bill Zehler.
8. All results must be turned in within 7 days.

This message is in response to questions received about the "Dig or Die" tournament hosted this weekend but pertains to any tournament hosted in the Ohio Valley Region:

The Ohio Valley Region's guidelines for the cost of entering tournaments remains as follows:

Tournaments using the match format with 15 point games, best 2/3 with a minimum of 4 matches (or eight 15 point games) guaranteed is $125.00 (tournament director may apply to charge up to $140.00 with proof of unusual expenses).

Tournaments using the two game per match format in a 5 or 6 team pool and/or not taking all teams to the playoffs is $100.00 ($115.00 maximum with proof of unusual expense)

Any club entering a tournament and NOT receiving the format they paid for is entitled to a refund!!!

It is the policy of the OVR and it's Junior Advisory Board to offer all clubs in our region a positive, affordable playing experience. We realize that extenuating circumstances do occur before and during tournaments. However, it is the responsibility of the tournament host to establishand announce a format in advance of their event and adhere to it as much as possible.
