Overview of the Ohio Valley Region
Introduction
The Ohio Valley Region (OVR), Inc. is one of the largest of the 39 regional volleyball associations (RVA's) of USA Volleyball (USAV). Our main purpose as an amateur athletic sports association is to promote and establish quality volleyball through participation by both adults and juniors, according to the standards set forth by USA Volleyball and the Amateur Sports Act of 1978. Geographically, the Ohio Valley Region includes the states of Ohio and West Virginia, and bordering counties of Western Pennsylvania.
The OVR provides opportunities for our members to participate at local, regional, zonal, and national competitions. Our large and active membership (12,550+ for the 2002 season) grants us the flexibility to offer exceptional opportunities such as holding both Adult and Junior Regional Championships in a metropolitan convention center. We also sponsor High Performance teams for elite juniors and coaches who wish to excel and to challenge their abilities at a highly competitive level of play. The OVR offers many educational avenues to our members who wish to become more effective club directors, coaches, officials, and clinicians. Beyond those immediately tangible benefits, we cannot ignore the physical fitness, health, and social opportunities that our lifetime sport provides.
The OVR is a nonprofit corporation registered in the state of Ohio. Its elected board of directors and officers carry out the numerous duties and responsibilities that go with their offices on a voluntary or largely pro bono basis.
Our website, www.ovr.org, delivers comprehensive information, updated daily, on activities in the Ohio Valley Region. The OVR also publishes a regional newsletter and handbook which detail tournament and safety procedures, organizational structure, bylaws, general regional regulations, and educational program activities.
Through our publications and activities we hope to promote the fantastic sport of volleyball to all wishing to join us.

Joining
USAV memberships expire on October 31. Professional officials must register by October 31, and club directors must register prior to holding tryouts. Players normally register with their team, with the team rep (men's and women's teams) or club director (juniors' teams) sending in the registration form, waivers, and all necessary fees.
Registration fees for the 2003-2004 season are as follows:
| Regular | $50 | |
| Junior Olympic Volleyball Athlete: female | $50 | |
| Junior Olympic Volleyball Athlete: male | $40 | |
| Junior Olympic Volleyball Coach | $50 | |
| Official | $50 | |
| Parent/chaperone | $25 |
This reflects a modest $5 increase for Junior players (the only in four years) to help cover rising costs and various aspects of the Juniors' program.
There are no team fees.
Age cutoffs for Junior Olympic Volleyball Athletes are definied in Juniors' Divisions.
Juniors' and Adults' Registration Packets will be finalized by September. Electronic registration will reopen on October 1.

Navigating this site
The OVR web site, www.ovr.org, is large, ramping up to several thousand pages during the peak of each season. Much of our content is dynamic, and its value and timeliness are increased tremendously by the active participation of the OVR's officers, tournament directors, club directors, team reps, and coaches.
Finding your needle in our haystack
Our Entry Page, Site Index, and Search Page are all aimed at helping our members and potential members find what they need quickly and easily. New users are encouraged to skim our Resources. Those knowing what they're looking for may prefer to jump directly to our Men's and Women's Programs, our Juniors' Programs, or our Officiating and Rules section.
Signing in
Many OVR members have usernames and passwords ("accounts") through which they can authenticate using the "Sign In" button. Once successfully signed in, the "Sign In" button for that session is replaced by a "My Account" button, which links to a customized list of shortcuts of functions relating to that account.
Anyone can create a new account. At the moment accounts are used primarily for authentication, but as we have time, the site will also allow for customization based on user preferences.
Signing in is recommended for club directors, team reps, tournament directors, officials, staff, and anyone else who needs to view or update information where identity matters. For example, club directors must sign in before recording their junior officials' certifications, and tournament directors must sign in before updating information pertaining to their events. Signing in ensures that information is only updated by the individuals who should be doing so.
If you are among the individuals who need an account to perform some restricted operation, please use the username that was e-mailed to you. Newly created usernames are not automatically associated with your identity in our database, so creating your own account will incur some delay as we make those associations on a case-by-case basis.
Usernames and passwords are case-sensitive. If you forget your password, you can have a new, randomly generated password issued. That password will be sent to your e-mail address: use it to sign in, then specify a new password that's both easy for you to remember and reasonably secure. A few checks are performed automatically on all new passwords to help with the security aspect.
Note that the sign-in facility requires that cookies not be disabled in your browser.
