The OVR Board of Directors has approved funding for the 2010 OVR HP Program.

We plan to field the following teams:

The 2010 HP Championships will be held in Sevierville, Tennessee. Competition dates will be July 27-31. The event will be held at the Wilderness Resort. The Wilderness Resort will not only be the site of competition, but it will also be able to house and feed every team on site.

The format of the championship is 3-4 days of pool play followed by a single elimination tournament bracket. Teams will play High Performance Teams from other USAV regions as well as USAV HP Teams.

Players selected for the team will train together prior to the championship. We are currently working on the training location and coaching staff and expect to announce those no later than February 1, 2010. We will continue with our plan to utilize college coaches and club coaches for the coaching staff.

We will select 20-24 players in each age group to participate in a HP Training Camp. The 10 person travel teams will be selected from the Training Camp participants.

Camp Participation is expected to be around $250.00. Players selected for the travel team will pay an additional $350-$450.00. Camp fees cover training, accommodations and meals and Kaepa training clothes. Travel team fees include coaching fees, travel to and from the playing site in Sevierville, Tennessee; Accommodations at the playing site (the site is an all inclusive resort-so we are determining whether food will also be included this year) and a complete uniform package from Kaepa. Player Fees are supplemented by the OVR board to cover the expenses. Last year, the OVR covered approximately 60% of the cost, with the player covering the remaining 40%.

In order to tryout for an OVR HP team, you must be a member of the OVR and USA Volleyball.

2010 OVR Boys' HP Tryout Information

Tryouts will be held in conjunction with the OVR Boys' Regional Championship on Saturday, February 27, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at Veteran's Memorial Coliseum.

We also plan to have an additional tryout in June for those who were not able to participate in the February tryout. The top players from both tryouts will be invited to the HP camp. You must be a member of the OVR to participate in the tryout process.

Advance registration for tryouts in preferred. Please download the OVR Boys' High Performance Tryout Application and complete it and e-mail it to Michelle Hills at hills@ovr.org. Registration prior to Monday, February 27th is $50. Registration after that date is $60.00.

Check in for the tryouts will begin at 6:00 p.m. Tryouts will start at 7:00 p.m. and are expected to last until 9:30 p.m. If a player is participating the regional championship that day and is still playing, they should come to tryout at the completion of play.

We plan to field two boys' teams in 2010 provided there is sufficient talent and interest.

Glenn Freed, Director of Beaver Valley Premier, will coach the Boys National Team and Tim Embaugh, OSU Men’s Assistant Coach, will coach the Boys International Team. Assistant coaches will be named later.

We plan to invite up to 20 athletes in each division to attend a HP camp the weekend of July 16, 2010. At the completion of the camp, the travel squad of no more than 10 athletes will be selected. The travel squad will train two additional days the following weekend and will leave from the training site for the competition.

The competition will be held July 26-31 in Sevierville, Tennessee.

The cost for participation for camp is expected to be approximately $250.00 and the cost for the travel squad will be an additional $400-500.00. Fees will include meals, lodging and training during camp. Travel Squad fees will include a complete set of Kaepa Uniforms, training in advance of the competition and travel from the training site to the competition site and return travel. Accommodations at the competition site and some meals will also be included. The total cost to the athlete exceeds the player participation fee and the remainder is offset by support from the OVR Board.

The OVR High Performance Teams will compete against other regional HP teams as well as USAV High Performance Teams. The program offers our elite athletes another opportunity to train and compete at the highest level while also building life-long friendships with other HP athletes. Recruiting exposure to college programs and exposure to the USA Volleyball National Team Training Protocol’s is another benefit of the program.
