League information

  1. Rules: The Boys' Fall League will play in accordance with the 2003-2004 Official United States Volleyball Rules. Boys' events in the Ohio Valley Region will use Molten® Pro-Touch™ volleyballs.

  2. Participants must be OVR members. Current members are eligible to participate in the fall league. Registration procedures for new members will be posted at www.ovr.org (need to confirm if online registration will be an option). We are offering a special membership rate for new members just for the fall league: $20 for players; $25 for adults (coaches or chaperones). All memberships will expire on November 1.

  3. Registration: Teams and individuals already registered for the 2003-2004 season are automatically eligible for the Boys' Fall League. Register new teams, players, coaches, chaperones for the Boys' Fall League online at www.ovr.org/register/2004bfl/. If you are including already-registered individuals on your roster, please supply only their names and 2003-2004 registration numbers to avoid generation of and charge for new numbers.

  4. Age group definitions: [The following age definitions may change, pending approval of revisions to reflect grade-level club play. Until changes are published here, contact Emi Vishoot (vishoot@ovr.org, 937-231-2385/m) for clarification.] We will use age group definitions for the 2005 season to coincide with the 2004-2005 academic year except 14-under will use the 2004 definition (due to lower net height)

    1. 18-under: players who were born on or after 1 September 1986, or are high school students in the twelfth (12th) grade or below during the current academic year and are 19 years of age or younger (born on or after 1 September 1985).

    2. 16-under: players who were born on or after 1 September 1988.

    3. 14-under: players who were born on or after 1 September 1989, or students who are 15 years of age or younger (born on or after 1 September 1988) and are in the eighth (8th) grade or below during the current academic year.

  5. Club/team affiliation: if an existing OVR team participates in the fall league, then a player that competed with that team during the 2004 season must stay with that team for the fall league.

  6. Team composition shall comply with the appropriate state high school association eligibility rules

  7. Tournament format

The format for the OVR Boys' Fall League will be 4-team pools, with round-robin pool play (all matches will be best-2-of-3 rally-score games). All teams advance to single-elimination playoffs.

If the number of teams entered in a tournament dictate 3-team pools, the pool play format will be

    1. Two best 3 of 5 matches; or

    2. Two best 2 of 3 matches, followed by a single cross-over match (best 2 of 3) against a team from another three-team pool

  8. Tournament awards for regular Boys' Fall League tournaments will be given to the first-place and second-place teams in the Gold division. For the Boys' Fall League Finals tournament, awards will be given to the first-place, second-place, and third-place teams in each division.

  9. Tournament entry fee: The entry fee for the regular Boys' Fall League tournaments (September 12-October 24) is $100 per team. The entry fee for the Boys' Fall League Finals Tournament (October 31) is $125 per team.

  10. Officiating: A professional USAV referee will be provided as the 1st referee for all matches. A non-playing team will be designated to be the work team for each match. A work team must provide the following: a knowledgeable 2nd referee, a knowledgeable scorekeeper, a libero tracker/scoreboard flipper, and two line judges. A coach must be present at the court during the team officiating assignment.

  11. Officiating clinics: Will conduct scorekeeping and second referee clinics on the morning of the tournaments (scheduled one hour prior to the first match). Each team must attend a clinic (minimum of two players, one to each session).
